SUMMARY:HKIAP 2026 Retreat - Exploring Chinese Femininity
DESCRIPTION:HKIAP 2026 Retreat – Exploring Chinese Femininity\n\n\n\nDate\n9 -11 April 2026\n\n\nTime\nFull Day Event\n\n\nLocation\nCheung Chau\n\n\nFee\n$3000 including meal and accommodation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\nHKIAP 2026 Retreat\nExploring Chinese Femininity\n\nSilence\, Sensing\, Connection and Creativity\nBody work and social dream matrix\nPlay with our nursery Rhymes\nMovie night and folktale reading\n\n  \n\nThis Spring residential retreat at Cheung Chau is a cherished occasion on the HKIAP calendar when analysts\, routers and members gather in a relaxed setting to connect and contemplate symbolic material from the unconscious. Presentations\, discussions and dream work on a chosen theme interwoven with film\, music\, movements and expressive arts. This is an opportunity for quiet reflection in the countryside. The “being with” the imagination in an unhurried way allows meaning to emerge is the heart of analytical work\, and the retreat experience is therefore highly recommended to all HKIAP members. \n  \nSilence\, Sensing\, Connection and Creativity\nThroughout the 3 days\, participants will have periods of silence for deeper reflection and for grounding themselves in their senses. We also cultivate a sense of connectedness and creativity through various forms of experiential activities and expressive arts. \nBody work and social dream matrix in the mornings\nEach morning begins with body work and a dream matrix. In the first morning\, there will be an experiential session on body work. In the second morning\, we are going to have a social dream matrix and engage with the images in the collective unconscious. \nDream workshop\nThis year we introduce a blind dream work. Participants are invited to bring dream material related to our theme of “Chinese femininity” from their analytical setting. This means dreams that are not too long and are of a more archetypal character\, i.e.\, not overly dependent on the personal associations of the dreamer. The group\, without knowing anything about the dreamer\, listens to the dream and works collaboratively to explore its significance in the life of the dreamer and in the analytic process. This is a valuable exercise in symbolic understanding. The usual rules of confidentiality apply. \nPlay with our Nursery Rhymes\nParticipants will be invited to sing or play a culturally familiar nursery rhyme. The rhyme will sail through the group\, held collectively in the room and touching deep images among participants. Moments of silence will be woven throughout\, allowing individual participants to “speak” by drawing or creating artwork. Participants will then share their images and offer further association from them. \nMovie night and folktale reading\nSelection of movie and folktales related to the theme of Chinese femininity will be studied together. We will watch a movie directed by Sylvia Chang (張艾嘉)\, in the first evening followed by reading folktales《鶯鶯傳》from the Tang dynasty followed by excerpts from《西廂記》from the Yuan dynasty on the second day. We will spend an afternoon with open reflection and discussion on the key theme after a beach walk in Cheung Chau. \n  \nNote: \n\nThe maximum number of participants is 12. First-come-first served.\nSingle room accommodation is to be arranged as far as possible\, but it is not a guarantee.\n\nRegistration: \n\nDeadline for registration: 28 th Feb 2026\nYou will be notified for payment after submission of the google form : HKIAP Cheung Chau Retreat (9-11 April 2026) –\nRegistration will be completed only when full payment has been received by HKIAP.\nThe cost for the three days\, including meals\, is HKD $3000.\nAll fees are non-refundable.\nAn official receipt will be issued upon request.\nEnquiry: hkiapinfo@gmail.com\n\n  \nHKIAP retreat 2026 flyer.pdf

She has a private practice in West Oxfordshire\, lectures widely in England and has been visiting China as an Analyst and Supervisor since 2007. She is particularly interested in bringing insights from Eastern wisdom together with Jung’s understanding of the psyche. She is also a medievalist with a special interest in pilgrimage. (www.perigrinor.co.uk) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE WEBINARS\nWebinar I: Monther Archetype\, Mother Complex and Mother\nJung wrote of the Mother as “one of the most moving and unforgettable memories of our lives\, the mysterious root of all growth and change; the love that means homecoming\, shelter and the long silence from which everything begins and everything ends.” Later he wrote of her as a “frail and fallible human being\, so deserving of our love\, understanding and forgiveness.” (C. G. Jung\, Collected Works\, vol. 9i §192) This is a challenging statement. \nIn this webinar we will explore the dynamics of the archetypal energy of Mother\, reflect on the developmental aspect of mothering\, and share our memories\, dreams and reflections of our own mother. We will consider how the tension between the archetypal and personal images manifests in our psyches and those of our patients\, and speaker will suggest that in Chinese culture Mother may be experienced a little differently to the West. \nSpeaker will present a power-point with many images of this fundamental archetype and then invite you to join into a discussion. Hopefully there will be time to do some group work in break-out rooms to deepen our understanding. Please have a couple of photographs of your mother available – perhaps as an adolescent\, a young mother or an older woman – to share in your smaller groups. \nSuggested Readings: \nCG Jung\, CW 9i\, Psychological Aspects of the Mother Archetype\nCG Jung\, CW 5\, Symbols of Transformation esp. part 2\, pp. 121-44 Erich Neumann\, The Great Mother\nEsther Harding\, Women’s Mysteries\, Ancient and Modern\nSibylle Birkhauser-Oeri\, The Mother\, Archetypal Image in Fairy Tales Tao te Ching \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWebinar II: Exploring Jung’s Concept of the Archetype of the Child – Daimon and Demon? \nThe symbol of the ‘divine’ child is a powerful and potentially creative image when appearing in dreams\, visions or active imagination. But in common with all archetypes\, it has a duality – a shadow side which can be very destructive and demonstrates how the spirit of the times is at odds with the spirit of the depths. In this webinar with an accompanying power-point\, speaker will explore this dichotomy as she weave in and out between the empirical and symbolic child\, and consider how to heal the split between the childlike and childishness. \nJung’s essay on the Child Archetype relates it to a link with the past\, a continual presence\, a potential future\, as both singular and plural\, a god and a hero. He comments on the child’s miraculous birth\, perils and abandonment\, its invincibility and its hermaphroditism. (Jung\, CG. Collected Works\, Vol. 9i The Psychology of the Child Archetype §259 – 305) \nIn this webinar participants will have the opportunity to explore the numinosity of the child archetype with its power and shadow\, reflect on aspects of developmental psychology and work with the symbol of the child as it may appear in dreams. \nPlease have a photograph of yourself as a child available. \nSuggested Readings: \nJung\, CG. Collected Works\, Vol. 9i\, The Psychology of the Child Archetype §259 – 305\nHillman\, J. Mythic Figures\, Abandoning the Child\, pp. 80 -124\nNeumann\, E.
