Jung on Saturdays Webinar Series 6

2021-09-18 @ 16:30 - 18:00

The lecture intents to explore the rebellion spirit in the Chinese psyche. The Taoist god Nezha and his myth will be used to explore the subject of rebellion from Jungian perspective. The themes of sacrifice and filial piety, in the Nezha myth, will be discussed in this lecture to explore the symbolic meaning of the depth of the rebellion meaning in the Chinese collective unconscious.

Nezha is a wildly worshipped god in Taiwan and South Asian Chinese communities. His history can be traced back to India, one thousand years ago. The significance of Nezha is related to his myth of god-becoming process. It includes his rebellious character, self-sacrifice, death, rebirth and the determination of father killing. Nezha is an exceptional Chinese myth, which is not only revealing the cultural attitude of rebellion, but also suggesting the transformative solution of the conflict.
